TAT TVAN ASI

TAT TVAN ASI
   a MANTRA in HINDUISM and SANSKRIT phrase meaning "Thou Art That" which sums up the essential message of the Chndogya Upanishad that the true ESSENCE of the UNIVERSE and individual SOUL are identical. "Tat" refers to BRAHMAN or the ABSOLUTE while "Tvam" means the TMAN, or individual, thus indicating the essential unity of the part to the whole.
