IQBAL, Muhammad
(1873-1938)
   Indian MUSLIM thinker, and poet who formulated the political theory that led to the founding of Pakistan in 1947. He sought to adapt ISLAM to contemporary society and challenged western ideas of MODERNIZATION. His chief work was The Reconstruction of Islamic Thought in Islam (1934).
